True Thriving with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) has myriad aspects; sometimes it is accepting where you are at, other times it’s doing what you can for another person.  Many times it is discovering what works to increase your health and then going after that solution with all of your resourses.  One of the most powerful ways I have found to Thrive over the years is to use herbal formulas to assist in eliminating toxins from the body and strengthening the systems of elimination.

When I first became a person with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity I had no idea what was going on.  All I knew is that I felt terrible all time. It took years before I discovered the first key to getting better - Avoidance.  Even today the most powerful tool I have at my disposal when it comes to MCS is to avoid chemicals that I know will cause me harm.  As part of avoidance I learned how to take cleansing showers to strip triggers off my person once I had been exposed.  I also learned what clothing to wear and how to wash my clothing so that I was not carrying triggers around with me wherever I go.

The second most powerful tool I discovered in my recovery from MCS was Detoxing, eliminating, the triggers that had already been absorbed into my body.  As part of my journey to cleanse myself I invested a year and a half into attempting to detox my body with a program of fasting.  As I detoxed I was also doing what I could to rebuild my body through a regimen of organic/vegan eating. This helped but not nearly as much as I was hoping. The astonishing amount of effort and self control that was expended was not met a proportionate increase in well being.  The relief that I had been looking for through an ascetic lifestyle was not found. I was disillusioned.

It was not until I had met a husband and wife naturopath/homeopath team that I found the relief and health I had been looking for (as discussed in the post “The Dynamic Duo”).  The Naturopath placed me on a regimen of herbal supplements designed to get rid of toxins that had built up in my system and to rebuild the channels of elimination.  This formula strengthened my liver and cleansed my system.  The health I had been looking to regain for years and had struggled so hard to achieve over the previous year and a half; I had found in the next six months.  I was not free from MCS but I was able to do things I had almost given up hope of: I found a great relationship, I exercised on a regular basis, I got a job as a delivery driver and salesman, I saved up money and went on vacation.

But as is all too often the case with being human, I found myself sliding backwards over time.  I stopped taking what the doctor had prescribed; I became unfocused and had taken a large part of my regained health for granted.  Over the last year or so I have once again found myself standing on the edge of a Multiple Chemical Sensitivity cliff.  Although many positive changes have happened in my world; it was again time to refocus my energies and regain the progress in my health.  The progress that I had so much enjoyed.  I have once again gone back to the Naturopath and returned to a program of rebuilding my health.
